Heirloom Handouts
If you want your audience to keep your handouts forever instead of
tossing them two minutes after they leave the room, concentrate on building
up your skills learned in your public speaking course. To make sure they don't toss it means
you have to give them a reason to keep it. I do this by strategically
adding important reference material on EVERY PAGE of the speaking handout.
The material I use is specifically picked for that presentation's audience.
The reference items might be web site addresses, important phone numbers,
book titles, or even humorous material that applies to the audience's
industry. Using what you learned in your public speaking course means that the
information isn't put on one page at the back of the handout where
that page can be torn off and the rest thrown away.
Don't forget to put your contact information on every page to make sure
they have a copy in case they do just keep one page.
